The deafblind are back at the institute
Finally! For many it seemed like an eternity, but now the deafblind students are back at the institute. At home it was difficult for both the deafblind and their relatives to support them. It is a big effort to care for someone who can't see or hear anything, especially if you don't understand the guided sign language. In most cases the deafblind are only fed and accompanied to the toilet. Otherwise, unfortunately, they often just sit around and cannot do anything - and this for two months. Unthinkable for us. But now slowly life is coming back into the life of the deafblind. They are allowed to learn again and find their way back into their usual school rhythm. The long separation from their pupils was not easy for the staff either and the reunion was a great joy.
In the smaller title picture you can see the bricklayer Botros, who has caught a bird with great care - a unique opportunity for Ayham. Usually you get to know birds by watching them. This is not possible for a deafblind person. Therefore Ayham had the chance to feel a bird. Very carefully he scanned his feathers and was startled when the bird fluttered. After the short shock his teacher explained what he felt and the bird was released.
